This standard letter enables the tenant to terminate a 9-year lease on a principal residence. The tenant may terminate the lease at any time, provided he gives 3 months’ notice. This letter is valid for Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. It must be sent by registered mail or delivered against an acknowledgement of receipt.

Tips for using this model
- Send the letter renouncing the lease by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt: the notice period begins on the 1ᵉʳ day of the month following receipt. For example, if you send the letter on February 15, the notice period runs from March 1ᵉʳ to May 31. You will have to vacate the accommodation by May 31 at the latest.
- Indemnity: if you leave within the first 3 years, mention in your letter of resignation that you will pay the indemnity due.
- Inventory of fixtures: schedule this at the end of the notice period at the latest, before handing over the keys.
- Proof: keep the postal receipt or acknowledgement of receipt as proof in the event of a dispute.
